Residents of an apartment building in Grand Rapids can breathe a sigh of relief after an early morning fire caused extensive damage but no injuries. The blaze, which began in the upper level of a two-story structure, was reported around 2 a.m. earlier this morning. According to WOODTV, firefighters responded to an upstairs apartment on 11th Street NW near Davis Avenue NW, where the fire had started.
The flames were primarily contained to the second floor, where firefighters managed to knock down the fire and clear the building, ensuring that all residents had evacuated. "The fire department arrived and knocked down the flames, searched the building and reported that it was all clear," reported WOODTV. Despite the frightening early morning alarm, WZZM 13 stated that no injuries were reported in the incident.
The immediate aftermath has left the extent of the structure's damage unclear. Utility companies, Consumers Energy and DTE, intervened to isolate one room so that other residents could maintain their utilities. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, according to a report by MLive, and further investigations will be conducted to assess the full extent of the damage.
