Jason David Campos, a 42-year-old from Granite Bay, California, is facing serious charges in federal court related to cyberstalking and other offenses. Campos was arrested and appeared in court in Sacramento on Tuesday in connection with years of online harassment targeting his former girlfriend, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Oregon release.
The charges stem from alleged actions dating back to 2009, during which Campos is accused of posting explicit images of his ex-girlfriend without her consent and using fraudulent and coercive tactics. Campos is indicted on charges of stalking, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
The harassment reportedly began in 2007 when Campos allegedly stole a laptop containing sensitive images of the victim, which later appeared on social media platforms like Facebook and Craigslist. The victim's personal information, including her maiden name, was also allegedly shared online. The harassment continued over several years, escalating in 2021 when Campos allegedly impersonated the victim to deceive her attorney and obtain confidential information.
Campos was arrested by the FBI and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He remains detained while awaiting further legal proceedings. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years for wire fraud, up to 5 years for stalking, and a mandatory 2-year sentence for aggravated identity theft, along with potential fines of up to $250,000 per charge.
