The days of trudging down to the local Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) office to renew your vessel's registration are sailing away. DOBOR has officially launched an online portal for renewing vessel registrations. "We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we worked through development and implementation of this system," DOBOR Administrator Meghan Statts said in a Department of Land and Natural Resources announcement.

While the new online system aims to make the renewal process more accessible, traditionalists can still renew their vessel registrations in person at Oʻahu's Vessel Registration and Titling Office or at Neighbor Island District Offices. Statts understands the digital shift, remarking that "In today’s world, it only makes sense that boaters can conveniently renew online," as per Department of Land and Natural Resources.

For those not using technology, mail-in renewals are still available and will be processed in the order they're received. This ensures people who prefer traditional methods aren't left behind. But for many, renewing online is an easier option that helps them get back on the water faster.

Individuals purchasing a new vessel or transferring ownership will still need to visit a DOBOR office in person, as these transactions require direct, in-office processing. While the department continues to expand digital services, it maintains in-person requirements for certain procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance for state boat owners.
