The Henderson Police Department is participating in a statewide effort to combat distracted driving. From April 1 to April 19, officers across Nevada will be focusing on enforcement as part of the Joining Forces initiative, according to the City of Henderson.
Nevada law enforcement agencies are increasing efforts to enforce distracted driving laws. The use of electronic devices while driving is prohibited, even at red lights, with the exception of Bluetooth devices for hands-free calls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration categorizes distractions into visual, manual, and cognitive types. Texting while driving involves all three types of distractions, which increases the risk of accidents, as reported by the City of Henderson.
The Henderson Police Department has received a $179,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety for the 2025 Joining Forces program. The program encourages drivers to set an auto-response on their phones saying, "Sorry I’m driving, but I’ll get back to you as soon as possible." This initiative aims to reduce distracted driving and improve safety on the roads, as stated by the City of Henderson.
