The upcoming biographical drama "Hershey," chronicling the life of chocolate magnate Milton Hershey and his wife Catherine, is set to start filming in Pittsburgh this May. As reported by Audacy, the movie has tapped Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario to portray the couple, whose combined legacy transcends confectionery to include philanthropy and education.
According to the Pittsburgh Film Office, via a statement reported by WTAE, Pittsburgh's diverse locales and skilled crews are primary reasons for the area's selection as a filming location. The production aligns with America's 250th birthday and is anticipated for a 2026 release. Although specific details about the filming schedule in Pittsburgh are yet to be finalized, residents may have the opportunity to appear as extras, with casting calls to be announced on the Film Office’s website.
The narrative of "Hershey" focuses on the candy baron's journey from repeated business failures to establishing one of the world's most recognizable sweet treat brands. Unlike his wealthy contemporaries, Hershey was renowned for generosity toward his employees and the broader community. Director Mark Waters noted in an interview with CBS News Pittsburgh, "The core of Hershey, the movie, will be the special love story between Milton and Catherine Hershey."
In a collaboration with Dandelion Media, five Hershey-affiliated entities, including The Hershey Company and Milton Hershey School, ensure the film authentically captures Milton Hershey's life. "Milton and Catherine Hershey's greatest achievement wasn't chocolate, it was creating a home and school for generations of children in need," Pete Gurt, the President of the Milton Hershey School, stated, per CBS News Pittsburgh.
