Last Wednesday, a high-speed pursuit initiated by deputies in Livingston County, Michigan led to two arrests following a series of reckless events involving a stolen BMW SUV, as detailed by CBS News Detroit and also reported on by ClickOnDetroit. The chase, that included episodes of the suspects' vehicle hitting a sheriff's car along with several other vehicles, ended in Lansing after the BMW became disabled due to the damages sustained.
Authorities attempted to perform a traffic stop on eastbound I-96, but the SUV, reported stolen out of Calhoun County, escalated the situation by fleeing at high speeds, eventually striking a sheriff's vehicle in Brighton before re-entering I-96, moving westbound, they proceeded at a high rate of speed, at times passing on the shoulders and grassy areas, displaying a dangerous disregard for the lives and property along its path. During the chase, the driver and passengers were seen throwing two handguns out of the car. The Livingston County Sheriff's Office later confirmed the guns were stolen from other counties. Two of the five people involved, Yussuf Abdikadir (19) and Kaku Daus (18), were arrested and are being held on a $250,000 bond. They face several charges, including having and getting rid of stolen guns and assault with a vehicle, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
The other passengers, three juveniles, were released to their parents and may face charges related to resisting and obstructing, however two others implicated in the incident remain at large; ongoing investigations seek to bring these individuals into custody, ensuring all who partook in the dangerous activities are held accountable.
