Last Saturday, a break-in at the Sweet Puffs Smoke Shop on Holly Road led to the arrest of a local teenager in Holly, Michigan. According to CBS News Detroit, the 14-year-old boy was arrested after police responded to an alarm at the store and found the front entrance shattered.
Further investigation and security footage from the store showed an individual, later identified as the teen, breaking into the shop and using a bike to flee the scene. As reported by MidMichigan NOW, the boy was found after police had to separately file him as a missing person. This came after discovering that he had left home without any prior permission.
Later that day, officers were able to locate the teenager at Lakeside Park, where he attempted to hastily hide and then run from the authorities. A brief pursuit ensued before police apprehended the youth. "Police found evidence on him from the Sweet Puffs burglary," mentioned an article from ABC12, suggesting the merchandise and tools on his person were linked to the crime.
The teenager has since been charged with one count of breaking a building with intent and one count of possession of burglary tools, both of which carry serious legal repercussions. As detailed by the sources, these are 10-year felonies to which the young suspect must now respond. After his initial court appearance, he was released to his parents' custody, awaiting further proceedings in the juvenile justice system.
