Honolulu's Night Enforcement Unit moved quickly to extinguish the illegal street racing event which transpired from March 28 to 29. The operation led to several arrests and a variety of charges, among them Racing on Highways and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII).
The Honolulu Police Department, in their continued efforts to maintain public safety, reported the arrest of multiple individuals caught engaging in acts of reckless abandon—racing at speeds hitting upwards of 152 mph in a 55 mph zone, a clear defiance of the law and disregard for the silent pact of communal responsibility that binds us on these strips of asphalt we call roads. Additionally, officers issued 17 citations during the crackdown, ranging from excessive speeding to miscellaneous offenses, according to a statement released on the Honolulu Police Department's website.
The specifics on the charges included 10 counts of racing, 12 of excessive speeding, 6 of reckless driving, and 3 for OVUII. As for the citations, officers handed out four for excessive speeding, two, for reckless driving, one for a moving violation, and ten for various other violations.
