
Authorities have taken into custody the suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred at an apartment complex on Wirt Road last month. Arnol Higinio Cruz Garcia, 33, faces murder charges, according to information released by the Houston Police Department.
The incident, which unfolded on the morning of March 16, ended with the death of Jose Hernandez-Cortez, 33, who was discovered with a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response of the Houston Fire Department paramedics, Hernandez-Cortez was pronounced dead at the scene, the fatal incident surrounded by questions and the urgency for justice a hum in the city's underbelly, as reported by the Houston Police Department.
In the wake of the shooting, Houston Police Department Homicide Division Sergeant K. Persad and Detective L. Yasin identified Cruz Garcia as a person of interest, a photo of whom was released to the public on March 17. Their ongoing investigation consequently pointed to Cruz Garcia as the shooter involved in Hernandez-Cortez's death statements obtained by the Houston Police Department revealed.
Weeks after the shooting, the Harris County District Attorney's Office filed a murder charge against Cruz Garcia last Wednesday. Following this development, Cruz Garcia was located and arrested without incident in Cocoa, Florida by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force with a helping hand from the Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force all the gears in the machinery of law enforcement clicking into place to ensure the suspect's apprehension. Cruz Garcia is now awaiting extradition back to Harris County, as per the Houston Police Department.
