
An early morning incident in Houston has ended in tragedy, as police investigate a fatal collision involving a pedestrian. The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on the Southwest Freeway at the 7400 block, according to a report from the City of Houston's official news site. The 52-year-old male victim, whose name has not yet been released pending family notification, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The driver, who was behind the wheel of a gray Honda Accord with distinctive blue or black stripes on the hood, is reported to have struck the pedestrian who was walking in the wrong direction, northbound in the southbound lanes. According to a witness mentioned in the City of Houston news report, the driver attempted a swerve in a bid to evade the pedestrian. However, in a tragic turn of events, the pedestrian moved into the path of the vehicle and was struck. Following the collision, the driver is said to have pulled over, only to then reverse and exit the freeway without offering assistance.
Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Hudson from Houston Police Department are leading the investigation. They’re looking for the driver or vehicle last seen taking the Beechnut/South Gessner exit. Houston Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact their Hit and Run Unit or give tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers, as reported by the City of Houston.
Police are asking the community for help in finding the driver responsible, stressing how important it is to bring closure to the victim’s family. The pedestrian's identity has not been shared yet, but a description of the vehicle has been released.
