An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an aggravated robbery involving an elderly woman. Benny Simmons is charged with aggravated robbery (elderly) in the 177th State District Court, according to the Houston Police Robbery Division.

The incident occurred earlier this month, around 3:00 p.m. in the 11400 block of Harwin in Houston. An 81-year-old woman reported that a man forcibly took a chain from her neck, causing her to fall and hit her head. The suspect also took her car keys, attempted to drive away, but crashed into several parked cars before fleeing on foot.

Officers from the Westside Patrol Station responded and found a cell phone believed to belong to the suspect. Houston Police Robbery Division detectives used this and other evidence to identify Simmons. Charges were then filed with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

The Westside Divisional Gang Unit later arrested Simmons at his residence. He attempted to run but was caught after a brief chase. Simmons is now in the Harris County Jail facing charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
