New indictments have been announced against individuals connected to two separate shooting incidents in Cambridge, one from 2021 and another from 2023, as reported by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. Charged with various offenses including armed robbery and assault, 27-year-old Anthony Samuel-Smith of Worcester and 31-year-old Jameel Taron Clark White of Braintree, stand accused of a violent encounter that occurred on March 2, 2021. A third individual, 20-year-old Jameel Dorcena of Lawrence, faces charges relating to a shootout amidst heavy traffic on Gilmore Bridge in 2023, an event that led to no physical injuries but wreaked havoc on the scene.
According to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, "These new charges reflect our commitment to prioritizing all incidents of gun violence. In these two separate incidents multiple rounds were fired off in busy areas of a highly populated city. It is only through great good fortune that innocent bystanders were not injured or killed." The indictment of Samuel-Smith and Clark White involves a purported armed robbery and carjacking in which Clark White allegedly shot the victim at close range, followed by an attempt to flee with a vehicle containing narcotics; police in the vicinity responded promptly, providing first aid to the surviving victim and securing important forensic evidence.
Further details reveal that in the later incident on September 28, 2023, Dorcena is accused of recklessly discharging a firearm into another vehicle during what appears to have been a chaotic altercation between two cars. Investigators were able to collect extensive ballistic evidence from the scene and, through enhanced video footage and mobile phone data analysis, identify Dorcena as the Honda operator who initiated the gunfire exchange.
The prosecution of these cases falls to Attorneys Michael Klunder and Graham Van Epps, with support from the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab, Cambridge Police Department and the New England State Police Information Network, according to the authorities, the collaborative effort reflects a deep-seated commitment to addressing gun violence, as Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow stated, "These prosecutions demonstrate the commitment of our officers, detectives and support personnel who in partnership with Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office were able to identify those believed to have been responsible for these troubling act of violence." Samuel-Smith and Clark White are scheduled for arraignment on April 16, 2025, while Dorcena, held under the 58a dangerousness statute, was arraigned last Wednesday.
