A six-month-old infant has succumbed to injuries sustained from a dog attack in Baytown, as confirmed by local authorities today. The incident occurred at the Inverness Gardens apartment complex off East James Street, as reported by KHOU 11.
The Baytown Police Department detailed that the attack took place yesterday around 3:50 p.m. The immediate response included transportation of the critically injured baby to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. According to police statements, the dogs responsible for the attack belonged to the infant's parents, a fact later corroborated by neighbors, and subsequently confirmed by Click2Houston through police. Baytown Animal Services has since taken custody of the two dogs involved.
"It wasn’t pretty. There was blood all over the baby’s head. Prayers out to the baby," told KHOU 11 neighbor Ken Sheltoe, who also described at least one of the dogs as "aggressive."
Details about the events leading up to the attack remain scarce, and city officials have yet to provide a report that might clarify the dogs' future and whether the owners will face charges. "She just had the baby in her hands saying 'God I trust you, God I trust you God,’" a neighbor, who requested anonymity, recounted to KHOU 11 after the child's mother sought assistance following the attack. Meanwhile, officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, with no arrests having been made or charges filed as of the latest reports.
