Tragedy struck at the Santa Clara County Main Jail last Saturday when a 56-year-old inmate was discovered unresponsive, a situation that quickly escalated into a medical emergency. The deputies on duty and medical personnel leaped into action, attempting to resuscitate the man.
Details from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office indicate that the deputies responded to the crisis at precisely 5:07 PM, and despite the immediacy with which CPR commenced, the imperative pulse of life could not be sustained; the San Jose Fire Department and Medical Services team were on the scene by 5:20 PM, and yet at 5:45 PM, the man's passing was declared.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Office are investigating and, so far, have found no signs of foul play. The case involves a man previously arrested on several warrants, including firearm possession and drug paraphernalia. The investigation now involves the District Attorney’s Office and the Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The identity of the deceased remains withheld from public knowledge.
