Yesterday afternoon in Jamaica Plain saw the arrest of Youssouf Mboukoh, a 22-year-old resident, by the Youth Violence Strike Force on multiple charges including firearm possession and drug trafficking. According to the Boston Police Department's official website, the incident took place around 2:26 p.m. when officers on patrol noticed a double-parked vehicle lacking an inspection sticker at 295 Centre Street.
After witnessing the driver enter a nearby building and the passenger remain in the vehicle, the police initiated contact. The driver, who initially gave a false name, was found to be Mboukoh, operating with a suspended license. A search of the vehicle ensued, leading to the discovery of a Taurus G2C firearm with ammunition, as well as quantities of cocaine, heroin, and crack cocaine. The search also yielded 75 grams of an undetermined white powder and $828 in cash. The passenger was eventually released from the scene.
Mboukoh is now facing a slew of charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm. Drug-related charges against him include trafficking of Class B, possession with intent to distribute Class A, and possession with intent to distribute Class B, along with an operation after suspension charge for the vehicle infraction. His arraignment is set to take place in Roxbury District Court.
The confiscated drugs were found to be approximately 27 grams of cocaine, two grams of heroin, and four grams of crack cocaine. The Boston Police Department's effort to interrupt the flow of illegal firearms and drugs into the community highlights an ongoing battle against substances that pose significant risk to public health and safety. The impact such arrests have on the community, however, remains to be assessed.
