The City of Brentwood commenced a new chapter this week as Jason Gage was the city's new City Manager. Sworn in at the City Commission Meeting on Monday night, Gage began his official duties, succeeding former City Manager Kirk Bednar, who retired on January 31 after more than two decades of service. At the ceremony, Gage expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, "I want to thank you for placing your faith and confidence in me," he said, as reported by the City of Brentwood. "I want you to know that my wife and I are excited to be in Brentwood, we’re excited to serve."
The search for Bednar's replacement was extensive and conducted by Government Professional Services (GPS), an executive search firm that attracted over 50 applicants. With her years of experience, the City Commission sifted through a pool of highly capable candidates, narrowing them down to just five finalists. According to details shared by the City of Brentwood's official announcement, appointing Gage as City Manager was the culmination of an exhaustive interview process.
Gage comes to Brentwood with a plethora of experience in city management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Missouri Southern State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Missouri. He is a credentialed member of the ICMA and brings a history of leadership from cities such as Salina, Kansas; Stillwater, Oklahoma; and De Soto, Missouri. His most recent post before Brentwood was a six-year tenure as the city manager of Springfield, Missouri. During his stint in Kansas, he was honored with the Buford M. Watson Jr. Award for Excellence in Public Management 2013.
