Gahanna, Ohio, has appointed a new steward of its economic growth. Jeff Gottke, an experienced hand in development circles, is now the City’s Director of economic development. In his fresh role, Gottke is tasked with bolstering the city's business landscape through attraction, retention efforts, and workforce strategies while ensuring these moves align with Gahanna's community values.
Mayor Laurie Jadwin extolled Gottke’s readiness for the job, noting, "Jeff has extensive experience in community-driven development and fostering sustainable growth, and he is uniquely positioned to help guide Gahanna as our region continues to expand," according to an announcement from the City of Gahanna's official website. The mayor believes in his ability to navigate Gahanna's growth in a way that preserves its close-knit sensibilities.
With a nearly three-decade career, Gottke's mosaic of experiences—from military police service with a deployment to Iraq to shaping young minds as an educator and debate coach to serving on the Mount Vernon City Council—has equipped him with a broad perspective. His recent tenure as the President of the Area Development Foundation Inc., particularly given the responsibility of directing economic policy for multiple stakeholder groups, garners special note. Indeed, during his leadership stint, he adeptly steered the community through shifting development tides.
In Gottke's own words, he is charged to propel Gahanna forward, stating, "My goal is to work closely with local leaders, businesses, residents, and schools to cultivate a vibrant economy while maintaining Gahanna's unique character,” as he told the City of Gahanna. Economic development, for him, is not just about attraction and investment. It’s about creating a fabric woven with ample employment, opportunities, and a high standard of living – for everyone in Gahanna.
