Jefferson Parish residents, mark your calendars and plan accordingly, as several services and government offices will be shuttering in observance of Good Friday. According to official statements from Jefferson Parish, the closures will affect a range of facilities, including all government offices, Head Start Centers, animal welfare services, and job centers tomorrow.
Despite the closures, garbage aficionados can breathe a sigh of relief. The Parish has confirmed that curbside garbage collection will proceed unabated on Good Friday. Residents of unincorporated areas and the Town of Jean Lafitte can expect their refuse to be collected as scheduled. To quickly offer additional details, the four drop-off sites and the Jefferson Parish Landfill will continue to operate on normal schedules. Recycling enthusiasts should note that Glass Half Full is generously set to provide free recycling services on Saturday, April 19—weather permitting, of course. If the weather decides not to play along, the collection is set to resume the following Saturday.
Recreation opportunities will see a brief pause as well, with Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation (JPRD) closing all parks, programs, and playgrounds, excluding Lafreniere Park and Parc des Familles, on Good Friday. Activities will return to their regular rhythm come Saturday, April 19. Additionally, book worms will have to wait to visit the library, as all Jefferson Parish libraries will weave in a pause for reflection on both Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Public transportation will be adjusting its timepieces as well, with Jefferson Parish Transit preparing to run a Saturday schedule on Good Friday before shifting back to its usual services the next day.
These seasonal closures and changes may be a small inconvenience, but they reflect the community's respect for long-standing traditions. Whether you like to plan ahead or go with the flow, be sure to keep these schedule changes in mind for the end of the week.
