Garland, Texas, is calling on its community-spirited residents to step up for the environment with the city's fourth annual Duck Creek Litter Cleanup event. Set for May 3, the call for volunteers is out, with opportunities opening up for individuals and groups ready to make a tangible difference in their local green spaces. According to the City of Garland, the nonprofit Volunteer Garland has launched its registration portal Get Connected and is aiming to bring together 150 to 200 volunteers to focus their efforts across six designated sites along the Duck Creek Greenbelt.
Local schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and corporate sponsors are all encouraged to join in, and the convenience of the new portal means participants can choose their cleanup site directly online, as well as track service hours and explore other volunteer opportunities provided by the city of Garland and its partners. In the mix making a difference are partners such as the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association, Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest, Keep Garland Beautiful, and Skatepark Respect, which the portal also features.
The initiative doesn't stop at Duck Creek, though; Garland residents are invited to take part in the wider 2025 North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge that runs until May 31. No effort is considered too minor in the mission to spruce up the community—"no cleanup is too small; any amount counts," as put forward by the City of Garland's invitation. Participants are reminded to log their contributions to the cleanup challenge to acknowledge their contributions to making the locality cleaner and safer for everyone's enjoyment.
