
Peter Koorenhof, a 74-year-old man from Kīlauea, died after being rescued from the waters at Kalihiwai Beach on Kaua'i. The incident occurred on Monday, when Koorenhof was found unresponsive. Koorenhof was pronounced dead after being taken to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. An autopsy will determine the cause of death, but authorities have indicated that foul play is not suspected. This incident occurred after the expiration of a High Surf Advisory, which had warned of hazardous surf conditions, including strong rip currents and dangerous waves.
