The Department of Water is offering rain barrels to Kauaʻi residents to promote water conservation. The program is available to households, businesses, schools, and organizations on Kauaʻi, with representatives aged 19 or older eligible to apply. The rain barrels can be used for nonpotable purposes, such as watering gardens. Winners must arrange for their own pickup and delivery of the barrels. "DOW encourages water conservation outdoors by using collected rainwater for landscaping needs," as reported by the County of Kauai.
Interested individuals can pick up an entry ticket for the Department of Water rain barrel giveaway at the Department of Water office located at 4398 Pua Loke St. in Līhue. The event supports Earth Day and encourages donations of non-perishable food items to the Hawaiʻi Food Bank and Kauaʻi Independent Food Bank. Checks "should be made out to Kauaʻi Independent Food Bank and/or Hawaiʻi Food Bank." The drawing for the rain barrel giveaway will take place on April 30.
