Kaufman County has reported energy consumption and expenditure data for 2024, showing significant savings compared to expected costs. As detailed in the House Bill 3693 Report, released yesterday, the figures reveal a total annual kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumption of 6,123,955, with corresponding total expenditures of $581,127.33.
Throughout the calendar year, the report illustrates a progressive increase in energy use from January's 412,760 kWh, costing $41,440.18, to a peak in August at 717,385 kWh, costing a total of $64,971.73. Riding the helm of summer, the county's energy spend reached its highest point, not only sharing the warmth but also the higher bills with residents.
The data shows that Kaufman County was able to achieve a significant yearly savings of $210,835.54. This was calculated by evaluating spending against the Provider of Last Resort (PoLR) benchmark, as reported to the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Savings peaked in August, wherein $24,750.68 was trimmed from the expected expenses.
A trend noted in the report is a downward slide in kWh consumption as winter approached, culminating in December's usage of 393,268 kWh, which amounted to $39,222.78.
