Kennesaw area residents and commuters are gearing up for a significant road closure as infrastructure upgrades are set to commence on Stilesboro Road. Per the Cobb County Department of Transportation and the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority (CCMWA), starting Tuesday, May 6, a vital water line work project will necessitate the road being shut down until fall. The construction will be carried out in three phases, with the initial phase causing disruptions from Gilbert Road to Old Mountain Road.
Expected to run through a chunk of the year, each phase of the Stilesboro Road closure will lead to different sections being inaccessible. Announced by Cobb County Communications, Phase 2 will begin in early August, affecting the road stretch from Old Mountain Road to NPS Visitor Center Drive. Following this, in late September, Phase 3 will take over the section from Old 41 Highway to NPS Visitor Center Drive. Additionally, the works are in preparation for the construction of new roundabouts along Old 41 Highway. Motorists will have to navigate the closure via alternate routes provided by authorities.
Detailed information regarding the detours has been disseminated so that drivers can plan their alternative pathways with minimal confusion. The county's official website offers an approved detour map, aiming to ease the expected traffic diversions and communicate the extensive nature of the project, which spans several months. Drivers traversing the area around Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will have to accommodate the upcoming changes in their daily itineraries.
