Kim Kardashian's shapewear and clothing brand SKIMS has opened its first Los Angeles flagship store on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, marking a significant retail expansion for the company. In collaboration with this new opening, neighboring Mel's Drive-In has been temporarily rebranded to the "SKIMS Drive-In", delivering a dining experience infused with SKIMS-inspired elements, as reported by KTLA.
The address of the new flagship store, located at 8569 W. Sunset Blvd., is nestled in an area known for its high-profile retailers and celebrity sightings. The storefront, designed by Rafael de Cárdenas, Ltd., boasts a minimalist aesthetic that resonates with Kardashian’s style and has been described as combining "monumental design with the intimate, body-focused aesthetic that defines SKIMS," as per a release shared by WeHo Times. A notable 12-foot sculpture by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft adds an artistic touch to the boutique.
Kardashian, serving as the brand’s co-founder and chief creative officer, called the opening "a full-circle moment," emphasizing her connection to the city and excitement for the brand's in-person presence. Similarly, Jens Grede, the co-founder and CEO, highlighted Los Angeles as a critical market for SKIMS and expressed enthusiasm over seeing the standalone stores come to life, with reports from The Hollywood Reporter.
While the Skims Drive-In pop-up is a temporary feature running from Wednesday to Sunday, the brand's physical presence on Sunset Strip appears to be a strategic move to cement its place in the competitive Los Angeles retail landscape. With a shapewear market projected to exceed $6 billion by 2032, SKIMS is positioned to be a significant player among contemporaries such as Spanx and Yitty, as noted by WeHo Times. The diner collaboration, featuring an exclusive menu with pancakes, Nutella French toast, and other diner classics rebranded in a Skims aesthetic, adds a layer of branding synergy.
As for the prospects, Kardashian has also indicated that Skims will soon launch an exclusive fitness line in collaboration with Nike, offering the NikeSkims products before a global rollout slated for 2026. Patrons of the store will have the chance to get their hands on these products as well as limited-edition "Skims Loves LA" merch, which benefits the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. The storefront is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering customers a full range of Kardashian's shapewear, loungewear, and intimate apparel, according to a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
