Early Sunday in Knoxville, a routine patrol turned into a foot chase, resulting in the recovery of a stolen firearm by East District officers. The Knoxville Police Department detailed the encounter on their Facebook page, recounting the events leading to the arrest of 22-year-old Tyreece Kyle.
It began around 1:30 a.m. at a Shell gas station on E. Summit Hill, where officers observed two men reportedly engaging in illicit drug transactions. The suspects left the scene in a black Jeep, which officers attempted to stop for a traffic offense. The duo pulled into the parking lot of the Vista apartment complex, where the passenger, Kyle, fled on foot but was swiftly apprehended by the officers. According to the Knoxville Police Department, Kyle, a previously convicted felon, was found carrying a loaded AK-style pistol, which proved to be stolen.
Kyle now faces charges for being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon, possessing a stolen firearm, and evading arrest.
The quick response of the Knoxville Police highlights the effectiveness of their patrol and rapid response protocols. Recovering a firearm, especially one with the capacity of an AK-style pistol, likely prevented potential violence in the community. The officers' work in this case is a testament to their diligence and the importance of community surveillance in crime prevention efforts.
