To better prepare future law enforcement officers, the Lake County Sheriff's Office Explorers Post 43 underwent training on how to conduct traffic stops properly. According to a Facebook post by Sheriff Frank Leonbruno, the session took place during the group's April meeting and included a partnership with the Willoughby Police Department Cadet 6020.
During the training, explorers were educated on the safety of both officers and civilians involved in traffic stops. As per the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Frank Leonbruno's social media post, the exercises were "focused on safety for the officers as well as the citizens who have been pulled over." This hands-on experience was facilitated by Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, who have state certification to train others in conducting traffic stops. It's part of an ongoing program to ensure that up-and-coming law enforcement personnel learn to properly handle a range of situations they may encounter on the job.
The training took place at the Lake County Public Safety Training Facility, where explorers gained practical knowledge and skills. Sheriff Leonbruno emphasized the importance of such training, posting that they "learned the proper techniques for making a traffic stop." According to Lake County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Frank Leonbruno, this education is becoming increasingly vital as police departments nationwide seek to improve interactions with the public and enhance the safety of both officers and citizens.
The collaboration with the Willoughby Police Department highlights a community approach to law enforcement training. The young cadets and explorers are being encouraged to understand the serious nature of police stops deeply and to quickly learn how to manage such challenging situations effectively. The initiative underscores a proactive stance in law enforcement readiness, suggesting a commitment by the Lake County Sheriff's Office to foster a generation of well-prepared officers. Sheriff Leonbruno's post reflects this sentiment, proudly sharing the successful training session with the community.
