Lāna'i residents, alongside their four-legged friends, are in for a treat as the Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation announced the official blessing and inauguration of the Fraser Avenue Lāna‘i Dog Park set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, according to a notification on their County of Maui. The park promises to be a local haven for dog lovers seeking a place where their pets can play off-leash in a secure environment.
The grand opening will feature comments from DPR Director Patrick McCall, and Gabe Johnson, the Maui County Councilmember representing Lāna'i—indicating a collaborative effort to enhance community spaces. The park itself offers separate areas for small and large dogs to roam freely. It also includes ADA-compliant amenities, such as sidewalks and two dedicated parking stalls for vehicles with ADA placards, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
Impressively, the project was completed months before its expected finish date in September 2025, a rarity in today's landscape of construction delays. Kitsap Construction LLC, the company behind the speedy execution, helped Lāna'i City reinvigorate its Fraser Avenue area after it had been closed for development earlier in February of the same year.
Additions to the park include a water fountain, enough to keep pooches hydrated after a play session, and parking to accommodate both the daily drivers and the accessibility-needs community. While the DPR’s Planning and Development Division declined to comment further on operational specifics, they did make it known that inquiries could be directed to their line at (808) 270-7931.
