Ingham County authorities found a deceased French bulldog in Lansing. The dog was in a pet carrier, partially covered by a trash bag, and left at Everett Park. Animal Control officers responded on Thursday afternoon after receiving a call about the situation near the park's entrance on East Holmes Road, according to CBS News Detroit.
Ingham County Animal Control is investigating after a deceased French Bulldog was found abandoned at Everett Park, believed to have been left between the evening on Wednesday and the morning on Thursday. “Our officers are actively investigating this case,” the shelter stated, as per CBS News Detroit. Authorities cited a violation of the Bodies of Dead Animals Act and reminded the public that “they can contact a local veterinarian, they can contact us at the shelter. There are many other ways to handle it other than this,” said Deputy Director Dan Verhougstraete, as reported by WLNS.
A dog was found dead in Everett Park, and authorities are investigating the incident as possible animal cruelty. Roberta Jereb, who saw the dog being removed, said, "It looked like it had been passed away for a few hours. It was kind of stiff. It was just devastating, my heart was broken." Rodolfo Rendon Sr. said, "There’s definitely better ways to handle getting rid of a dog if you don’t want it." A veterinarian will examine the dog, and a necropsy will be done at a lab. Officials are also reviewing home security footage. Verhougstraete told WLNS, "Leaving it [the dog] in a park like this is wrong on so many different levels."
