Smoke billowed high above the Phoenix skyline late Friday morning, following the outbreak of a large fire at a local scrapyard. Emergency services rushed to the scene situated near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road shortly before 11 a.m., where a plume of smoke was visible for miles around. As reported ABC15, aerial footage displayed multiple fire crews and ladder trucks engaging the fire in a collective effort to douse the growing flames.
Across the city, residents could see the thick, black smoke stemming from the south Phoenix incident. Taking action, firefighters from the Phoenix Fire Department responded to the distress call that came in around 10:30 a.m. last Friday, and were met with heavy smoke and flames upon arrival at a junkyard located on 23rd Avenue and Broadway Road. With rapid coordination, seen from miles away, "Firefighters quickly secured multiple water sources attacked the flames from an elevated position," expressed Capt. Daniel Lee in a statement obtained by FOX10 Phoenix. The urgency of the situation escalated as command deemed necessary to increase the response to a second alarm, intensifying their efforts against the fiery adversary.
Thankfully, through the dedicated actions of the responding crews, the blaze was contained preventing it from further destruction spread throughout the neighboring areas. Confirming the outcome, no injuries have been reported in the wake of the scrapyard fire.
