An 18-year-old man from Largo has been taken into custody after an investigation linked him to the possession of child pornography. Alex Diaz was arrested yesterday, following a probe that began earlier in the year when detectives received a tip-off about the illegal material being accessed online.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the Crimes Against Children Unit (CAC) used a variety of investigative methods to trace the digital footprint back to Diaz. The images he is alleged to have possessed depicted children who were approximately 10 years old. The investigation that nabbed Diaz started on January 29, escalating to his arrest nearly three months later.
Diaz now faces 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Pinellas County Jail, where he remains in custody.
The investigation into this disturbing discovery is far from over. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has indicated that their efforts to uncover the full extent of this child pornography case are ongoing.
