The intricacies of end-of-life care and options are often shrouded in discomfort and uncertainty, but a forthcoming event in Las Cruces aims to shed light on the subject for the senior community. The Las Cruces Public Libraries has teamed up with End of Life Options New Mexico to present "Adulting for Older Adults: End of Life Options." This discussion, an essential conversation perhaps long overdue, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the Roadrunner Room at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, according to the City of Las Cruces.
Specifically tailored to seniors, caregivers, and their families, the series is a beacon, aiming to illuminate the oft-neglected subject of one's final days. The upcoming session on April 23 is but one part of the library's ongoing series, which, in the future, we will also delve into topics like brain health, Narcan, and strategies for aging in place, to name a few. Such topics affirm the fragility and the resilience of life, they honor the dignity of aging, the journey old hands have traversed. As for the looming session addressing the end of life, it will unfold along Roadrunner Transit Route 1, in a room aptly named for the bird that knows all about speed and navigating the terrain before it.
Understanding and preparing for end-of-life can be daunting, but it need not be a solitary endeavor. Library officials urge those interested to participate and seek out the information that might illuminate paths previously clouded. Those requiring disability accommodations to attend this crucial event are encouraged to reach out to the library at (575) 528-4102, with a courteous advance notice of at least 48 hours.
