Residents and businesses along Mesa Central Drive, brace yourselves for a little shake-up in your routine this Thursday. According to the City of Las Cruces, there will be a water shutoff, or at the very least, some will experience low water pressure from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 17. The disruption is tied to Black Canyon Construction, which is in the process of integrating a new water line to serve future commercial expansion.
For those of you residing, or running your operations, between Mesa Grande Drive and Mesa Moreno Drive, the inconvenience might not unfold into a full-blown outage. However, prepare for fluctuations in your water supply as the new infrastructure is woven into the existing one.
Once the faucets start flowing again, don't be startled by any cloudiness or discoloration in the water that may arise. This visual transformation is attributed to iron, manganese, and calcium sediments, which, while initially unappealing, pose no harm, as per city officials. Laundry enthusiasts may want to postpone their date with the washer until the water runs clear, a transparency that is expected to re-establish itself within a day.
If translucency proves elusive beyond that 24-hour mark, residents should engage in a ritualistic flush, running their faucets for five solid minutes. This homely remedy may not suffice, and if the tint refuses to fade, the city offers a helpline. Dial (575) 526-0500 for voice calls, or if TTY is preferred, the number is (575) 541-2182, and city staff will be at the ready to assist.
