
A deadly altercation shattered the relative calm of a Las Vegas neighborhood last weekend, as gunfire rang out in a courtyard on West Chicago Avenue. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported responding to a distressing 911 call concerning a shooting at around 9:05 p.m. last Saturday. Arriving officers discovered a male victim with gunshot wounds, who was swiftly transported to UMC hospital. Tragically, his wounds proved fatal.
In a rapid turn of events, Homicide detectives identified Alexander Ayres, age 47, as the prime suspect. According to the investigation, tension mounted when the victim stepped out of his apartment, only to be gunned down shortly after by Ayres. Ayres was subsequently arrested and now faces charges including Open Murder with a Deadly Weapon, among other serious felonies. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
While details are continuing to surface, the LVMPD has not yet released the identity of the victim. The Clark County Coroner's Office is expected to provide this information, along with the official cause and manner of death. As the investigation forges ahead, law enforcement remains open to tips from the public.
