In a recent effort to improve road safety and reliability, League City's Traffic Department, in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation, has taken a proactive step by activating new traffic signals at several key intersections across the city. According to the League City official website, this new infrastructure is designed to withstand the inclement weather conditions that have historically caused outages and disruptions for drivers in the area.

The updated traffic signals are securely mounted on poles to prevent them from being easily knocked down, a common issue with the previous wire-dangling designs. One notable enhancement is a battery backup system, engineered to keep the signal functioning seamlessly for up to ten hours during a power failure. This initiative aims to not only maintain traffic flow but to also ensure safety during unexpected power outages.

Residents can now expect to see the new signals at pivotal parts of the city. As per the city's announcement, installations are complete at FM 96 and SH 3; Walker Street intersects FM 646, Kessler’s Crossing, and Victory Lakes; and FM 518 encounters Interurban, Iowa, and Bay Area Blvd. These areas were selected strategically based on traffic flow analytics and incident reports.
