Leander, TX - Local residents and police officials found themselves amid an unusual search operation after a miniature horse named "Spice" was encountered strolling through a Leander subdivision. The pint-sized equine was discovered on April 21 around 9 p.m. wandering in the Vista Ridge Subdivision, specifically on Encino Drive, as reported by CBS Austin.
Despite the unexpected discovery, community members provided a warm welcome and overnight shelter for Spice. In the darkness, it seems the miniature horse simply "ot turned around in the dark and couldn't find his way home," according to authorities. The Leander Police Department relayed that the equine showed quite the fondness for his overnight accommodations, expressing reluctance when the time came to depart the next morning, FOX 7 Austin shared.
Spice's description is fairly distinctive – he sports a brown head, with darker legs that anchor to the earth, and a body dappled in white specks. The community's intervention underscores an innate camaraderie, an impulse to steward the wandering amid their own domiciles.
Leander officials have taken to social media to appeal for public assistance in reuniting Spice with his family. "Upon speaking to him, he stated he was out on a late-night stroll, trying to see if he could meet some new friends," Leander police humorously posted on Facebook. Anyone with information concerning a pony on the loose or who might know the owners of Spice is asked to contact Leander Animal Services at 512-528-2800, in a collective effort to navigate Spice back to the terrain he calls home.
