Walter C. Hall of Leisure City K-8 Center has been named Principal of the Year by Miami-Dade Public Schools, in recognition of his two decades of service in education. The distinction follows Hall's recent accolade as a recipient of the 2025 Florida Taxwatch Principal Leadership Award, which placed him among the elite group of the state's fifteen most effective principals from high-risk K-12 schools, as reported by Local 10.
Melissa M. Miller, also celebrated, received the Assistant Principal of the Year award for her 14 years vested in the field of education. Having served as a teacher and reading coach for eight years before, her journey ascended to the role of assistant principal at Shadowlawn Elementary School, and then at Frederick Douglass Elementary School since 2021. Leisure City K-8 Center, led by Hall, is now a beacon for educational leaders statewide, echoing a chorus of affirmation for impactful leadership from Miami-Dade Public Schools' Instagram page.
The winners were announced during the Dade Association of School Administrators’ Annual Award Ceremony on April 17th at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Miami. The runner-up for Principal of the Year was Tiffany C. James from Dr. Frederica S. Wilson/Skyway Elementary School, while the Assistant Principal of the Year runner-up was Tiffany Hayes of Norland Middle School, as celebrated by the district.
Not only will Hall be celebrated with a $2,000 cash prize, but alongside this, he is to be provided a three-year lease on a car courtesy of Headquarter Toyota. Miller's success marks her with a $1,500 cash prize and the promise of a cruise, bounding across oceanic vistas, courtesy of Royal Caribbean Group, setting a standard for educational excellence in a ceremony wrapped in celebration, as detailed by Local 10's coverage of the event.
