Last Saturday, commuters were not expecting the scene that unfolded in the pre-dawn hours on the northbound lanes of I-35E. According to a social media post by the Lewisville Police Department, at about 3:35 a.m., a vehicle, reportedly alone on the road, careered over the guardrail and ended up in the waters of Copperas Branch Lake.
Responding to the accident, the Lewisville Fire Department Dive Team was dispatched and quickly launched a search operation. Navigating the murky pre-dawn water conditions, they managed to locate and retrieve the submerged sedan. As the vehicle was pulled from the lake, the situation's urgency was palpable, with first responders hoping that any occupants would be found alive.
The ongoing investigation, which has not revealed the cause of the crash, leaves us with more questions than answers. According to their statement, the Lewisville Police have not yet reported finding any individuals, either the driver or possible occupants. They have not released further details about the incident or the vehicle's occupants, maintaining that the matter is still under investigation.
