The Lewisville Police Department, partnered with Lewisville ISD and the Drug Enforcement Agency, is taking a stand against prescription drug abuse by hosting a Medication Disposal Day. Set for Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will take place in the Lewisville High School parking lot, located at 1098 W. Main Street – aiming to give residents a secure way to rid themselves of unwanted or unused prescription drugs.
Recognizing the grave risk that surplus medications pose in our homes, the organizers are focused on preventing these substances from becoming a source of addiction or harm. "The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana among the most common forms of drug abuse in the United States," notes an official statement reported by the City of Lewisville. They underscore the importance of events like these as unused or expired medications can lead to accidental poisonings, overdoses, and further abuse.
This operation isn't just a means for disposal, it's an educational opportunity where the public can learn more about the critical public health issues associated with prescription drug abuse. Those with surplus medication are encouraged to capitalize on this chance to declutter their medicine cabinets and take a proactive step in safeguarding their community.
