Liberty County Commissioner David Whitmire has been indicted by a grand jury and now faces criminal charges. The charges include sexual assault, official oppression, and solicitation of prostitution, as confirmed by Whitmire’s attorney, Chris Tritico, in a report by Click2Houston.
Tritico told that Whitmire plans to turn himself in and post bond this morning. The indictment was issued after a closed grand jury session yesterday. Specific details about the allegations have not yet been made public, and neither Whitmire nor other county officials have released further statements.
Liberty County District Attorney Jennifer Bergman issued a statement emphasizing that public officials should be held to a higher standard. In a statement to BlueBonnet News, Bergman said she is committed to holding individuals accountable regardless of their position.
Earlier this year, Whitmire faced criticism for reportedly mocking dog advocates during a public meeting, an incident that also drew public attention.
