A beloved Livonia eatery, Bates Burgers, will remain temporarily shuttered following a fire that erupted yesterday. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m., was reported by Bates' Burgers on Facebook, describing the grill as having caught fire and causing the space to fill with smoke.
The restaurant's management needs to quickly assess the damage and determine how soon they can resume operations. A new grill has been ordered, with plans to reopen after its installation and inspection by the fire department. Locks damaged during firefighting efforts have also been replaced. General Manager Tara Smith, who holds familial ties to the establishment, anticipates a reopening sometime next week, as reported by the Detroit Free Press. Smith's words carried a sense of resolve as she spoke about local community members and businesses offering support and services, affirming that "the material items are replaceable and we can’t wait to get open and back in business."
Livonia Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Wade Clay confirmed the scale of the incident, noting that it was a small fire contained to the griddle area. This information aligns with the reports from Bates’ Burgers themselves, which communicated through social media posts and reassurances to their patrons. The damage was not extensive, being confined mainly to the grill and resulting in some smoke damage to the surroundings. Livonia firefighters were applauded on Bates Hamburgers' Facebook page for their rapid and efficient handling of the situation, ensuring that no one was injured.
