A man was found dead with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle near Texas Southern University, prompting a lockdown and a wide-ranging police search for two suspects on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. According to ABC13, the Houston Police Department received reports of the shooting at around 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Ennis and Rosewood streets; shortly thereafter, an alert advised TSU students to shelter in place while the pursuit for the suspects, last seen fleeing towards the campus area, was underway.
During a tragic incident near several schools, Houston ISD put Lockhart Elementary, Yates High School, and Blackshear Elementary on "secure mode" for about 30 minutes to keep students safe. The alert was lifted once the area was cleared and everything returned to normal, as per ABC13.
Police later said the suspects were in the car with the victim when the deadly shooting happened. One suspect is a thin man with short dreadlocks, wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts, and carrying a white bag. The other is a heavyset Black man with dreadlocks, wearing a white shirt and carrying a black bag. Investigators also believe a silver Chrysler 300 might be connected to the case, as reported by ABC13.
The university ended its lockdown around 4:30 p.m., after informing students and staff around 3 p.m., according to FOX 26. Meanwhile, Houston police are still investigating what led to the shooting. They haven’t said if the suspects are connected to the university and have only said the victim was a young man. Investigators are appealing for any information regarding the suspects, and photos of the individuals described have been circulated among law enforcement agencies as the search continues.
