The Lorain County Sheriff's Office has announced a somber occasion to honor fallen officers, inviting the community to join in remembrance of their service and sacrifice. The annual Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony, scheduled for May 9 at 11:00 a.m., will be held at the Lorain County Peace Officers Memorial on 3rd Street in Elyria, paying tribute to two officers whose service came to an end as a final act of devotion to public safety, according to a social media post from the Sheriff's Office.
This year's gathering will distinctively engrave Deputy Joel Repose and Trooper Michael Allyn Paris' names on the civic memory's stone, Repose, who completed his watch in 2022 and Paris, who did so in 2012, will be solemnly recognized amidst a procession of tributes - local officials, Sheriff Jack Hall, and honor guard presentations will be on hand to ensure these protectors are fittingly commemorated, as reported by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
The importance of this ceremony is underscored by Sheriff Hall's remarks on the selfless nature of the county's peace officers, highlighting the dedication of those like Repose and Paris, and emphasizing the importance for their community to remember their sacrifices and courage.
The Lorain County community is encouraged to unite in observing the valor of its peace officers during this memorial event, designed to both honor and inspire. Sheriff Hall and the County Chiefs Law Enforcement Association reach out to the community to stand together in this act of collective remembrance and gratitude.
