A Macomb County man, identified as Jony Saad Alatto, 33, has received a prison sentence of 30 to 60 years for his involvement in a Detroit mass shooting that led to the deaths of three individuals and wounded two others in August 2022, as reported by WWJ Newsradio 950. According to court records, Alatto pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony firearm charges in March.
The shooting incident, which transpired on Saratoga Street near 7 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, resulted in the demise of Morriss Campbell Jr., 41, at the scene, with the other victims Alphonso Henry, 55, and John Coffie Jr., 76, succumbing to their injuries later; the tragic event unfolded at what was described by police as a "known narcotics vacant location," says the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Furthermore, in a statement obtained by WWJ Newsradio 950, survivor Yolanda Stringer emotionally disclosed during her victim impact statement, "The only thing I want to know is why? Alatto's arrest came two years following the shooting and while facing nearly two dozen charges; most of these charges were dropped after his guilty plea on the three counts of second-degree murder. During his sentencing, Alatto expressed remorse, saying, "I let the drugs control my life," as noted by FOX 2 Detroit.
