A Macomb County man's regular habit of playing lottery scratch-offs has dramatically paid off after 40 years, with a $6 million jackpot win from the Michigan Lottery's $6,000,000 Wealth game. The prize is one of the largest offered in the state lottery's history. An anonymous 60-year-old told officials, "When I scratched the ticket and saw I won $6 million, I thought I was going to faint!" as reported by The Kansas City Star. The winner verified the staggering amount through a scan on the Lottery app, as he could not believe his sight, and is still processing the reality of his newfound wealth.
According to the information provided by WZZM13, the winning ticket was purchased at Najors Liquor & Deli, located at 43903 Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights. The man opted to take a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $4.1 million over annuity payments for the full amount. He disclosed plans to take a vacation and then to carefully save the remainder of the money. Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli highlighted the success of the $50 instant games and send out a congratulatory note saying, "Congratulations to the lucky winner who claimed the first $6 million top prize on our newest $50 game - $6,000,000 Wealth!”
The $50 instant game tickets, including the $6,000,000 Wealth game, have proven to be popular amongst lottery enthusiasts since their introduction in July 2022, as noted by MidMichiganNow. The $6,000,000 Wealth game is noteworthy as it debuted the $50 ticket range with grand prizes that have attracted players looking for potentially huge payouts.
The winner’s identity remains anonymous. He mentioned his desire to take a trip before deciding on the best way to secure his savings.
