Starting Monday, April 7, the city is embarking on a project to spruce up the corridors between C Street and D Street and their neighbor between D Street and E Street. According to an announcement sourced from the City of Hamilton's update, the initiative aims to bolster aesthetics and utility in these backbone alleyways of the downtown area.
It's a two-phase operation, the first of which kicks off with an excavation on Monday. Throughout the week, the alleys will see their depths filled with gravel, smoothed with fine grading, and, for spots that call for it, undercut to pave the way to the concrete pours planned for Thursday and Friday for Phases 1A and 1B, respectively. Yet, weather warnings issued for the weekend have the city hedging their bets on the concrete dry-time—they've hinted at possible delays, a caveat they'll communicate promptly should plans change.
Phase 2 mimics the first, slated to start two weeks later on April 21. Once again, the process begins with excavation on Monday, followed by gravel application, grading, and undercutting as necessary. This leads to concrete pours for Phases 2A and 2B towards the end of the week. “We appreciate your patience and support as we work to enhance our downtown alleys,” said the City of Hamilton in a public statement. “We’re looking forward to the improvements ahead!”
