Early this morning, Houston police responded to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 30-year-old man at the 3900 block of Galveston Road. According to the City of Houston, the collision occurred around 5:10 a.m. and involved two vehicles. The name of the victim has not been released, pending family notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant K. Harris and Officer R. Saenz, are leading the investigation into the accident. They reported that the driver of a black Chevrolet Silverado was southbound on Galveston Road, approaching Park Place when he swerved to avoid a gray Chevrolet Suburban that was stopped at the red light, clipping its side mirror in the process, as reported by the City of Houston.
The Silverado ran a red light, went off the road, and crashed into a culvert before flipping over. Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived quickly, but the Silverado driver was pronounced dead. The driver of the Suburban was unharmed. Authorities are still investigating, but initial reports suggest speed played a major role in the crash, as per the City of Houston.
