A brutal incident in San Francisco's Castro District has led to charges against a 34-year-old man, Andrew Davais. In a press release from the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, it was announced yesterday that Davais faces one count of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, alongside an allegation of personally inflicting said injury.
As per the details of the case, Davais allegedly approached and struck a man who had been standing with his wife at the intersection of Castro Street and Market Street on Sunday. The sudden attack reportedly occurred at 6:04 PM, causing the victim to fall and sustain multiple injuries upon hitting the ground. Davais is accused of simply walking away after the assault, brandishing a skateboard and trash bags. The incident led multiple witnesses to quickly follow him, ultimately alerting the police, who apprehended him thereafter.
In light of the serious nature of the charges, the District Attorney's Office is taking steps to ensure Davais remains detained pending trial due to public safety concerns. His arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 PM today at the Hall of Justice. The charges represent allegations, and as a defendant in the criminal justice system, Davais maintains the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.
The investigation into the assault remains active, and authorities are looking for individuals who may be able to provide further information.
