
A homicide investigation is ongoing at a south Charlotte apartment complex after a man was found shot to death early Friday morning last week. WSOC-TV reports the fatal shooting occurred outside the Emerald Bay Apartments on Cherry Crest Lane, near South Boulevard and Archdale Drive.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) arrived at the scene before 10 a.m. following a call about the incident just before 8 a.m, CMPD confirmed the victim's death at the location. CMPD has yet to release information on potential suspects or the identity of the deceased individual.
Additional details emerge from WBTV's coverage, confirming that the homicide took place off Archdale Drive, not far from I-77, and behind the Archdale Park. This area is marked by several apartment buildings, and at this time, the law enforcement has cordoned off the concerned apartment building for further investigation.
According to a statement obtained by WCNC, CMPD Major Ryan Kendall expressed the weight of these tragedies stating, "Every one of these incidents is very concerning for us and it is tragic for the family and then the parties involved." He further added, "Our homicide unit is working very diligently to bring closure to these cases."
The public has been urged by CMPD to come forward with any information they might have concerning the case. The investigation is still underway, and the Steele Creek Division, which encompasses the southwestern part of Charlotte and includes several residential neighborhoods is part of the ongoing police action. With the shooter still at large, the area remains tense and under the careful watch of local authorities.
