Manhattan's streets became the scene of a violent episode last night when a man was reportedly stabbed near the New York Public Library in midtown Manhattan. Officials stated that the police were called to the scene on East 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue around 10:30 p.m., where they found the victim with injuries to his stomach and leg. He was transported to a hospital and is anticipated to survive the harrowing ordeal, NBC New York reports.
The suspect, who is still at large, was described as wearing dark clothing and was last seen fleeing eastbound on 43rd Street. At this time, the details surrounding the stabbing remain unclear, as does any potential connection between the assailant and the victim. Authorities have not provided information on the victim's age or identity, and despite having recovered a pair of scissors at the scene, no arrests have been made so far.
Similarly, a separate but possibly related incident occurred outside Manhattan's Bryant Park, which resulted in another man sustaining life-threatening injuries. According to witness statements, the altercation broke out near a dumpster beside the iconic park, where the man in his 40s engaged in a heated argument with an individual also described as donning dark-colored attire. The confrontation escalated, leading to the man being stabbed in the lower abdomen and thigh, before the perpetrator fled uptown on Fifth Avenue, as chronicled by NY Daily News.
The victim of the Bryant Park incident was quickly attended to by medics and is now at Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. The NYPD is currently reviewing surveillance footage to track down the assailant and has not yet confirmed if these two events are connected.
