The shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday, with Ferndale Police stating that officers on foot patrol in the downtown area heard gunshots at approximately 12:30 a.m. The source of the shots, according to CBS News Detroit, was identified as an alley situated between West Nine Mile Road and West Troy Street.
Officers discovered the male victim, whose identity has been withheld, wounded near the rear entrance of the theatre at 141 West Nine Mile Road. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the groin area. Despite responding within moments of the gunfire, officers were able to provide lifesaving aid to the man until emergency medical services transported him to the hospital, where he is said to be stable now. In an incident that shook the quiet night, it's been suggested by investigators that the shooter operated from a vehicle that vacated the area swiftly following the crime; a narrative also echoed by FOX 2 Detroit. Among the chaos, no suspect has been apprehended as the investigation into the perpetrator's identity continues.
Ferndale Deputy Chief David Spellman praised the quick action of officers, saying they responded within seconds of hearing gunfire and gave lifesaving aid to the victim. Several agencies worked together, including Ferndale Fire, Michigan State Police, and police from Hazel Park, Oak Park, and Royal Oak. Police are now asking anyone with information or video of the shooting to contact Ferndale detectives at 248-541-3650, ext. 5, as per FOX 2 Detroit.
